Today, the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund (KEEF) and GIZ, on behalf of the German Government and the Danish Government, signed a Grant Agreement for the project “Strengthening KEEF Financing Mechanisms for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy”, with a total value of EUR 1.5 million.
The agreement aims to support the development and piloting of mechanisms for financing energy efficiency measures and renewable energy sources for self-consumption in multi-apartment buildings, the integration of renewable energy systems in public buildings, as well as the strengthening of KEEF’s institutional capacities for the implementation of new financing schemes.
Through the project, pilot investments will be implemented in selected multi-apartment and public buildings, contributing to improved building energy performance and greater integration of renewable energy for self-consumption. The project will also support the development of new co-financing models that combine grant support, beneficiary contributions, and KEEF’s existing financing mechanisms, creating a foundation for the further expansion of investments in both the residential and public sectors.
Kosovo continues to face significant challenges in the energy sector, including dependence on lignite-based electricity generation and the low energy performance of the existing building stock. Through the planned activities, the project is expected to contribute to reducing energy consumption, lowering CO₂ emissions, improving comfort and living conditions for citizens, and supporting Kosovo’s objectives for energy transition and decarbonization.
Representatives of GIZ and KEEF emphasized the importance of this agreement as an important step toward developing sustainable financing mechanisms for investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy in Kosovo.
The project is financed by the German Government and the Danish Government through GIZ and implemented by the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund (KEEF).
